The Provincial Grand Master announced at the Cornish Installed Commanders Lodge of RAM No. 1332 on Tuesday 31st January 2017 that our petition to the Worthy Causes section of the Mark Benevolent Fund for £17,137.12 was successful. This grant will be spent on providing 4 permanently placed electric hoists for the lifting of patients at the Stroke Unit of Treliske Hospital, Truro, Cornwall. Within the ward are three single bedrooms near the nurse’s station where critical cases are given extra nursing care, each bed will have its own electric hoist fitted above the bed on a movable gantry to enable the nurses to lift, turn and manage the patients safely. The scope of reach of these hoists includes a large area outside the bed so patients can be lifted into a bedside easy chair or wheel chair as required. Another unit is being fitted into the washroom again to enable the safe support of severely affected patients while washing.
This grant is another example of how the Mark Benevolent Fund continues to provide for the needs of others in a practical way for the benefit of us all.
